Plants Have Rights Too, So?!

I wonder why we don't see any protests from PETA and vegans outside of Home Depots... probably because that action doesn't REALLY fit their agenda, but are we just going to pretend as a society that we don't see the obvious and brutal slavery that exists today?

Of course I am talking about the plants section in these stores. They are indeed alive, and they have rights!

Imagine being a tiny seed- waiting for the perfect moment to emerge from the comfort of your protective shell. Finally, the soil feels warm and so the timing must be right, so you slowly creep from your safety and into the unknow. Only to find that you were not born in nature at all.

What you thought was sunlight was, in actuality, artificial light and you are about to embark on a very sad journey where the very same soil you were birthed in will likely become your grave.

At first these realizations sink in slowly as there seems to be plenty of room in this tiny container for a much smaller seed, but we grow quickly, don't we? Soon you are shipped off to sit on the shelf of some store with no good lighting at all and no fresh air.

Your home becomes more and more cramped with each passing day as you slowly begin to suffocate. The once abundant soil full of nutrients that fostered your growth as a young seedling, turned plant, is now beginning to wear thin of its precious, life-giving nutrients...and without UV light, you will slowly starve as well.

That is of course, if you do not drown in your own sewage first due to improper drainage...

Now, I am of course being SARCASTIC here in a sense...This is indeed the fate of many house plants, and I do have my personal views on potatoes, carrots and other root vegetables being OBVIOUSLY still alive as they continue to grow roots after plucked, and continue to actively search for food/water, but none of this is really the point of this article.

Though I do believe plants, animals and all the above deserve respect, kindness and to have the best life possible, I also know that there is no difference between a life form we choose to eat and one that we do not. Also, and more importantly, as humans we clearly have to eat something...frankly everything on this planet that survives MUST DO SO by consumption. If we are to live, we must consume.

This is reason why there aren't protesters outside of Home Depots and why it doesn't fit their agenda. They all swear by eating plants claiming that this life form is somehow exempt from the list of things you should be publicly ridiculed for consuming.

However, it is convenient to argue for the rights of cute, fuzzy-faced critters and neglect the other life forms for which you gladly feast on, that DON'T have cute fuzzy faces and yet are very likely to feel just as much pain as you yourself do.

So, this all begs the REAL question here- "How far will they go?" That is to say, as a collective of people who seem to be hypocritical, hyper-fixated, social-justice-warrior-types, how far will they go here exactly? Would they rather all of us just starve in the streets than consume for the sake of survival? Or is it just okay for them and not the rest of us?

Just highlighting the clear and utter hypocrisy, irony and entitlement of groups like these to pick a choose what to enforce upon others and what to not.

Remember friends, Gaia has given us all that we need to live in nature- plants AND animals. As long as we treat this gift with respect and always give thanks for the sacrifice, then truly, we are free to eat and live as nature intended.

Namaste'!
